Circular economy

The world’s first national road map to a circular economy was drawn up under the leadership of Sitra in 2016. This road map outlines the first concrete steps Finland will take towards a circular economy. This is about a fundamental change in the way society functions. It is not only about recycling, but also about the production of raw materials, the processing of materials, the manufacture of products, distribution, trade and consumption.

Among the objectives of Prime Minister Sipilä’s Government is that Finland is a forerunner in the circular economy by 2025. The key project on the bioeconomy and clean solutions contributes to reaching this objective.

The Callio circular economy project will find out what kind of new sustainable solutions the unique infrastructure of the Pyhäsalmi mine will allow for the world challenged by climate change, depletion of natural resources and urbanization. In addition to this, the objective is to model the possibilities of the identified circular economy for a road map type document for the years 2018 – 2025.
